Entries for the Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship Essay Contest open each year on September 15.
Piedmont Area Mensa participates annually in the Scholarship Essay Contest established by Mensa Foundation. Over the years, PAM has awarded thousands of dollars in unrestricted scholarships to students who reside in the Upstate. Local funding for PAM scholarships comes from the efforts of members who donate their time to fundraising activities as well as from private donations and grants.
These awards, ranging from $300 to $1000, are offered each year and do NOT require Mensa membership. In addition, the Mensa Member Award Program provides five $1000 scholarships each year to Mensa members or their IRS dependents.
The scholarship application process is open each year between September 15 through January 15. (Application forms are unavailable at any other time.) Between September and January, interested individuals can visit the scholarship application area of the Mensa Foundation's college scholarship program web site to determine eligibility and, if eligible, enter the program.
The contest is based on an individual essay that is submitted electronically via the American Mensa web site. Applicants have until January 15 to write an essay of not more than 550 words explaining their career, academic or vocational goals and how they plan to achieve those goals.
Competition is open to any student who will be matriculated in an accredited U. S. post-secondary educational institution in the fall of the academic year following the competition and who currently resides in the membership area of a participating local group of American Mensa. Awards can be made at local, regional and national levels, or up to all three!
U.S. applicants need not be Mensa members. However, Mensa members may apply for both these scholarship programs and the additional Mensa Member Award Program.
Entry information for the programs, including the contest rules, will be available on line from September 15, 2023, until January 15, 2024.
