Whether daring rogues or evil devils who have to be brought to justice, pirates have been a staple of movie swashbucklers for almost a century. From Douglas Fairbanks in 1926's The Black Pirate through Erroll Flynn and Burt Lancaster to Johnny Depp and Geena Davis, pirates have battled their fellow pirates, tyrants, and ghosts, not only in adventure films but in comedies and musicals. Join Frasier for a guided tour of the pirate world, Hollywood style.
BIO: Frasier Sherman has written five film reference books, most recently Sex for Dinner, Death for Breakfast: James Bond on Screen. Born in England, he lives in Durham NC with his wife, LeAnn, and their two adorable dogs. |

He will make a few remarks about the journey and then open it up for questions about the story and the process to get it published. BIO: Bruce Holland graduated from USC in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and USC Law School in 1974. 3:30 PM Pirate's Plunder Exchange Art Cartwright Welcome to Tortuga (aka Room 113 at the 2023 ArrrrRG)!
As any pirate knows, every raid promises the opportunity for spoils both fair and foul. If you have an item that you've "acquired" during a previous voyage, this is your opportunity to bring it to our Pirate's Plunder Exchange and (maybe) get something even better? We'll loosely follow traditional "White Elephant Gift Exchange" rules that will, in true pirate fashion, be modified on the spot as necessary or as dictated by the whim of the captain. Pirate-themed items are welcome but not required, and we ask that items be limited to no more than $15.00 in value. Items should be wrapped, boxed, or otherwise obfuscated so as to conceal their nature until the item is first opened. After that, it's every buccaneer for himself or herself in the cutthroat competition to see who has the best booty on the island!

8 - 10 PM The Pirate's Jig Come Out and Shake Your Booty Brian Williams What's a pirate's favorite thing? Booty! And what can you shake at PAM's Saturday Evening Karaoke Dance Party? Maracas! Wait, that can't be right. Let's start over... Have you ever wanted to attend a pirate-themed dance party while listening to a bunch of smart people butcher your favorite songs? Well, do we have the perfect event for you! Wear your best pirate-y getup and cut loose on the dance floor, or grab the mic and belt out a chantey or two!
BIO: A man out of time, Brian Williams has always had a fondness for pirates - or at least for pirate's garb. When not dressed as a pirate, Brian serves as local secretary of PAM, writes an award-eligible column for the group newsletter, and holds the title of co-chair of PAM's Regional Gathering, while allowing the other co-chair to do all the heavy lifting. In his spare time, he enjoys plundering, bottles of rum, and long walks on the beach looking for that blasted X marking the spot! |
